Tokamak Energy has a revealed new image of its energy-producing fusion pilot plant being designed with support from the U.S. Department of Energy’s Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program.
Today is Fusion Day in the U.S., when fusion scientists meet with Congressional offices to raise awareness and support for fusion energy.
The company’s pilot plant features a set of next-generation high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnets to confine and control a deuterium-tritium hydrogen plasma.
It will enable the company to develop and test the processes and technologies needed to deliver fusion power, including the crucial liquid lithium fusion blankets that will capture energy from the fusion reaction and ‘breed’ the tritium needed as a fuel.
It’s a crucial stepping stone towards 500-1000 MW fusion power plants that will provide clean, limitless and reliable energy to businesses and homes into the future.
