Investing in future talent
As Tokamak Energy continues to grow and evolve, attracting and developing skilled people is a priority.
We currently offer apprenticeships, undergraduate placements, and PhD sponsorships to support early career development. These programmes provide valuable experience and help build the skills needed for a career in fusion energy.
We’re planning to expand these opportunities over time – so keep an eye out for what’s next.
Apprenticeships
If you’re looking for a rewarding, worthwhile and exciting start to your career, an apprenticeship with Tokamak Energy could be the perfect opportunity.
You will have the chance to learn from industry experts, gaining both academic qualifications and a wide range of relevant skills and experience necessary for entering the workforce. Our preferred training providers will deliver high-quality training, complemented by mentoring and support from our friendly team throughout your apprenticeship.
At present, we have two technical engineering (technician) apprentices. As of April 2025, we are excited to announce that we are seeking two Level 3 Mechatronics apprentices to join our expanding team this September.
Undergraduate student summer placements
Gaining hands-on experience in the workplace is an invaluable part of the student experience.
Tokamak Energy offers a range of student placements throughout the summer months, giving you the opportunity to work alongside some of our world leading scientists, engineers and other technical and business professionals. Our summer placements will give you exposure to exciting projects and a variety of workplace tasks related to your studies.
Examples of placement focus areas include electrical systems, diagnostics, plasma physics, materials, machine learning, chemical engineering and experimental data analysis.
We’re currently running a number of placements for summer 2025 in collaboration with UK Atomic Energy Authority through the Fusion Opportunities in Skills, Training, Education and Research (FOSTER) programme. We usually advertise our placements in the spring time.
PhD Sponsorships
As part of our strategy to build talent through academic collaborations, we work with UK and international universities that have relevant postgraduate opportunities in science and engineering.
Each year, we host exciting new PhD research opportunities through which you can develop your knowledge and skills, continuing your studies in collaboration with us and our world leading professional scientists and engineers.
Applications should be made to universities directly, not Tokamak Energy, but if you have any general questions on our company and research priorities, please contact us at: careers@tokamakenergy.com
