Early careers
As Tokamak Energy continues to grow and diversify, finding and developing the best talent is critical.
We are committed to building talent for the future and currently offer apprentices, undergraduate student placements and PhD sponsorship. Our aim is to continue to expand our early career offerings in the future – so please watch this space!
Apprenticeships
If you’re looking to start your career in something worthwhile and exciting, an apprenticeship with Tokamak Energy may be the perfect choice.
You will get the opportunity to learn from experts in their fields. You will also gain both academic qualifications and a variety of relevant skills and experience that you will need to join the workplace. You will receive high quality training through our preferred training providers, as well as mentoring and support throughout your apprenticeship from our friendly team.
We currently have apprentices in technical engineering (technician) and health physics. We typically advertise our apprentice opportunities from April / May each year.
Undergraduate student summer placements
Gaining hands-on experience in the workplace is an invaluable part of the student experience.
Tokamak Energy offers a range of student placements throughout the summer months, giving you the opportunity to work alongside some of our world leading scientists, engineers and other technical and business professionals. Our summer placements will give you exposure to exciting projects and a variety of workplace tasks related to your studies.
Examples of placement focus areas include electrical systems, diagnostics, plasma physics, materials, machine learning, chemical engineering and experimental data analysis.
We’re currently offering a number of placements for summer 2024. Please visit our current vacancies page and click on ‘Student Placements’ to view and apply.
PhD Sponsorships
As part of our strategy to build talent through academic collaborations, we work with UK and international universities that have relevant postgraduate opportunities in science and engineering.
Each year, we host exciting new PhD research opportunities through which you can develop your knowledge and skills, continuing your studies in collaboration with us and our world leading professional scientists and engineers.
Applications should be made to universities directly, not Tokamak Energy, but if you have any general questions on our company and research priorities, please contact us at: careers@tokamakenergy.com
We currently have an opportunity for a Tokamak Energy sponsored PhD position with Oxford University Materials Department, exploring the effects of irradiation on HTS magnets. Find out more information including how to apply here.
